About
Sonam Pathan is a filmmaker and educator with over six years of experience spanning creative practice, academic engagement, and the film industry. She holds an M.Sc. in Filmmaking from Bangalore University and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Pune.
She has professional experience working with international visual effects studios such as Moving Picture Company (MPC) and Technicolor Creative Studios, where she contributed to VFX Production Management on large-scale international productions, including Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) and Paramount Pictures’ Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023). This industry background informs her practice-oriented approach to teaching and creative work.
She has also served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Cinema at the Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT), Noida, where she taught Film Production and Film Direction. In this role, she supported students through practical training, curated film screenings and skill-based workshops.
As an independent filmmaker and producer, she has written and directed short films such as Aza (2019), Kitne Dino Baad (2025), and Woh Raat (2025), along with the short documentary Dance of Divine (2025). Her debut short film, Aza, was screened and recognized at national and international platforms.
She has completed advanced training and certifications from leading institutions, including:
1. A short-term programme in Filmmaking and Cinema Fundamentals at the Film and Television Institute (FTI), Arunachal Pradesh (an extension campus of SRFTI, Kolkata)
2. The Film Appreciation Course at FTII, Pune
3. A short certification in the Application of Sound in Film and Television from SRFTI, Kolkata
4. Production Management Training at Technicolor Creative Studios
5. A Certified UAV Remote Pilot License (Drone) issued by the DGCA, Government of India
She was part of the direction team for the regional short film Ajin Paku (2018), developed during a short-term course at FTI, Itanagar, and created using a mix of tribal languages from Arunachal Pradesh. She also directed Marumerusanke (2025), a Kannada-language student short film made as part of her M.Sc. Filmmaking programme at Bangalore University.
Her work bridges professional film practice and academic learning, enabling students to understand both the creative and industry-driven aspects of filmmaking.
